FAQS

Common questions about our dental services — answered.

A dental implant is an artificial tooth root surgically anchored into your jaw to hold a replacement tooth or bridge in place. It looks, feels, and functions like a natural tooth — making it the most permanent tooth replacement option available.

Once the root part of the implant bonds to the bone, an artificial tooth is placed directly on top, creating a stable and comfortable restoration that requires no special maintenance.

You must be in good health with proper bone structure and healthy gums. Dr. Patel will perform a thorough evaluation of your dental and health history to determine if implants are right for you.

The gum is secured over the implant and remains covered until it fuses with the bone — a process that typically takes 3–6 months. Most procedures require only one surgical appointment under local anesthetic.

The full process can take up to nine months from start to finish. Each patient heals differently, so exact timelines vary. Dr. Patel will provide a personalised timeline during your initial consultation.

Underneath your tooth’s outer enamel is an area of soft tissue called the pulp, which carries the tooth’s nerves and blood supply. A root canal refers both to this natural channel inside the root and the procedure to treat infection within it.

When the pulp becomes infected due to a deep cavity or fracture, it can die. The resulting infection causes pressure and pain inside the tooth. Root canal therapy relieves this pain by removing the diseased pulp.

The tooth will not heal by itself. Without treatment the infection will spread to surrounding teeth and bone. The procedure saves your natural tooth and prevents extraction.

The diseased pulp is removed, the canal is cleaned and shaped, then filled with a biocompatible material. A crown is typically placed afterwards to restore the tooth’s full strength and appearance.

A crown is a restoration that covers a tooth to restore it to its normal shape and size. Crowns strengthen and protect tooth structure that cannot be restored with fillings, and can also improve the appearance of a damaged or discoloured tooth.

The tooth is reduced so the crown can fit over it. An impression is taken and sent to a dental lab for fabrication. A temporary crown protects the tooth while you wait, and the permanent crown is cemented at the follow-up appointment.
